Oregon Burlesque Festival

Headlined by Canadian burlesque star Lydia De Carllo, the inaugural Oregon Burlesque Festival packs a professional punch with producers Tana the Tattooed Lady, Holly Dai and Ellie Darling. The weekend-long event kicks off Thursday at the Funhouse Lounge with a newcomers and local talent expose. Friday’s show highlights the variety of the art form with neo, classic, comedy and boylesque acts—all emceed by William Batty, the brains behind Wanderlust Circus. On Saturday, performers go tassel to tassel in the festival’s closing night competition. Who will take home the platinum pasties? 8 pm. Dante’s. $15 general, $100 VIP table for four.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

You can thank the internet for the early and lasting success of east coast indie rock band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (CYHSY). The group’s web-based following had such a force that the group had to re-issue its debut album after being “discovered” to meet fans’ demand. Since that serendipitous online burst in 2004, the band members have been busy—both releasing CYHSY albums (seven in all, including live and EP) and playing with side projects. The band’s most recent record, 2014’sOnly Run, includes guest performances from Kid Koala and The National’s Matt Berninger. 9 pm. Mississippi Studios. $16-$18.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Proving that some sexist stereotypes cancel each other out (e.g. one cannot be both a “dumb blonde” and a successful “gold digger”), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes tells the story of two friends as they cross the Atlantic for work and pleasure. Hijinks ensue as the engaged Lorilei flirts with an elderly (married) diamond mine owner and Dorothy evades the advances of the private eye sent to spy on Lorilei. Beloved for its wit and hit songs (“Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “A Little Girl from Little Rock”), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes gets a modern treatment as part of the Oregon Festival of American Music. 7:30 pm. Nothwest Psych Fest

Free your mind with psychedelic….music. If the bands are even half as good as their names are awful, this is one festival you won’t want to miss. For example, the lineup includes: Crack Sabbath, Fungal Abyss, Swamp Meat, and Master Musician of Bukkake. Almost as good is the way the bands describe themselves. Apparently, you can expect some post-colonialcore, punk-jazz, space rock, and sacred psychedelia. 8 pm. Sunset. $12.
